Guys,
Just got back from bangalore. It has been 2 months away from home. Feels nice to be back. These 2 months were hard because i missed both my bike and my system.
When i got back home, i was in for a big shock. My system was yet again attacked by a virus. And this time, the virus was a nasty one. This one is called as the 'Funny UST Scandal.exe' virus. Let me tell you one thing, this virus is not funny at all.
The initial symptoms were that i was not able to open certain drives in my hard disk. I tried restarting the explorer, my system just to ensure it was not a windows error. The same situation continued after reboot. Now, i knew that the system had a virus. I thought of killing the virus process by opening task manager. I opened the task manager and saw the process called 'killer.exe' running. While i tried to kill it, the task manager was closed automatically! I was really shocked. I tried opening task manager again, but this time it wudnt even open. Then i tried to prevent the virus from starting itself during reboot. I opened msconfig. To my utter shock, it closed automatically too! The damn virus wouldnt even let me open the command prompt.
I searched the net for information regarding the virus and got some info abt it. Few sites said that the virus file resides in C:\Windows with a hidden attribute. When i tried to view hidden files from the tools menu in the explorer, it closed too!
I was really shocked. The guy who wrote the virus must have been a genius. When i tried searching for the virus cure in the net, any web page which pointed to the cure also closed automatically. I couldnt open symantec or mcafee's site.
To make things worse, the damn virus wouldnt let me install anti virus softwares too. As i said before, who ever who wrote this virus must have been a genius.
To summarize the symptoms,
1. Task Manager closes automatically
2. CMD prompt closes automatically
3. System Configuration Utility [msconfig] closes automatically
4. Anti virus installations fail
5. Websites pointing to its cure closes automatically
6. Cannot open hard disks where the virus resides.
7. Cannot open 'Folder Options' in Explorer menu.
After numerous attempts in finding cure for the virus, i finally stumbled upon http://piyushlabs.wordpress.com/smss/. This blog really helped me a lot. This blog gives complete information abt the virus and how to clean it. The cleaning process is made easy by the batch files given in the site. The author of this site, Piyush is absolutely great. His solution helped me remove the virus from my system. Thanks Piyush! Continue in your attempt in kicking out viruses [and not creating them :)]
Hope you guys dont get this virus in your system. And if you are unfortunate to get the virus, consider yourself fortunate to find the solution at http://piyushlabs.wordpress.com/smss/
Until next time.
This is to officially announce that the stuff written in this blog are purely imaginary.. the characters and the incidents described dont point to any person living or dead.. And this is hosted by an annonymous user.. I am 65 yrs old and reside in melbourne, australia.. hows that for a disclaimer.. :)

Blogs I Read
Guys,
It has been sometime since i started blogging. It has always been a problem to find some time to blog. In blogspot.com, i have found some very interesting bloggers and blogs. I thought i will spend some time in creating a blog where i speak about blogs which i liked reading. :)
Coffee with Sundar
This is one innovative blog which i came across. Sundar has this unique concept of interviewing people through his blogs. It is certainly very interesting reading some of his interviews.
Muthu's Flashes
This guy has started blogging only recently. In this short span of time, he has come up with lots of interesting and thought provoking blogs.
Smiling strokes
I particularly liked this blog due to my interest in painting and photography. Couple of good photos in this blog Click here
Harsha Bhogle
Technically speaking, this is a blog. But not the kind you expect. Harsha has always been my favorite commentator and his blogs on latest news in cricket are always worth reading.
Hope to add more in this list.
Until Next Time.

World's Greatest Paradox
This is said to be among the greatest paradox
Many years ago, a Law teacher came across a student who was willing to learn but was unable to pay the fees. The student struck a deal saying, "I will pay your fee the day I win my first case in the court".
Teacher agreed and proceeded with the law course. When the course was finished and teacher started pestering the student to pay up the fee, the student reminded him of the deal and pushed days. Fed up with this, the teacher decided to sue the student in the court of law and both of them decided to argue for themselves.
The teacher put forward his argument saying: "If I win this case, as per the court of law, the student has to pay me as the case is about his non-payment of dues. And if I lose the case, student will still pay me because he would have won his first case. So either way I will have to get the money".
Equally brilliant, the student argued back saying: "If I win the case, as per the court of law, I don't have to pay anything to the teacher as the case is about my non-payment of dues. And if I lose the case, I don't have to pay him because I haven't won my first case yet. So either way, I am not going to pay the teacher anything". This is one of the greatest paradoxes ever recorded in history.

A Little Green Book
Hi,
Have you ever wondered how it will be to open a book like a real time simulation in your computer rather than pressing the next page or previous page button in system.
I mean flipping through the pages of book by holding and turning the edge of the book similar to real time book.
Just check this virtual real time book experience of book.

Shopping - Comes with Experience
Hi folks,
I just came up with this completely different topic on shopping.
I just realized that it is not as simple as it sounds. Much more complicated.
Am pretty sure, all of u have had ur own good and bad experiences while shopping. As always, it is the bad experiences that tend to linger longer in our minds. And i for one, am the worst when it comes to shopping.
I have had bad experiences in buying things from mobile phones to shoes to system speakers.
I was seriously cheated while i bought my first mobile. It dint even last for couple of months. Next time i was very careful while buying another mobile phone.
There is always a group of ppl who insist on "branded" things & another group of ppl who prefer to buy things for "cheaper rates". For god sakes, am really confused which to chose from.
Sometimes i wonder, is the nike "tick" on the shoe really worth spending 1000 more on it.
Sometimes i wonder, is it safe to buy a "cheap" shoe worth 500 that wud last only a year or so.
The really good shoppers, end up buying the package with the best combination satisfying all corners. And poor shoppers ( like yours truly ) end up buying the wrong package.
You can buy things in the road side shops of chennai or buy the same things at costlier price in the big malls.
And, electronic goods is a different thing all together. The prices tend to decrease as time progress. so, u are never really when is the right time to buy electronic goods. the old saying of "Mobile phones and girls are the same, U always feel u wud have got a better one if u had waited for some more time.." comes to my mind.
Woooh.. Branded vs Unbranded. Time to buy electronic goods.
Aaaaah, and almost forgot discounts. The one who invented the concept of discount is by far the greatest innovators in my opinion. There are some genuine discounts around. they are worth buying. There are fakes around too. They just hike the price to 200% and introduce a discount of upto 60%. !!!!
One more funny thing. People travel many kms in auto and buy loads of stuff cuz there is some discount attached. Come on ppl, u have spent extra money & TIME on the travel. just take a calculator and do some maths, u will realise u have actually spent more money and time on that pursuit.
And what about freebies !!!! Buy one get one free !!! Can u really believe it ??? Is it true or is it some other innovative way of cheating u ? Sometimes it really gets weird. I remember once boro plus putting ads on TV flashing "Buy one, get two free". What the ????
Just imagine.. is it really possible to come to a conclusion which one is better ? Mastering the art of shopping is really tuf.
After trying unsuccessfully to master the art of shopping, it has finally dawned upon me that i am indeed a "poor shopper". So, u guys out there, be careful while u do shopping next time. It is very "bad" world outside there. :)

In Da Bang!!!
Hello Folks,
Guess this is my first "proper" blog of this year.
2007 has been good to start up with. Things moving on well.
I just happened to come to Bangalore on a official visit. All though i haven't had a gud look arnd this city and its ppl til now, there have been few things which have definitely caught my eye. So, just things which i wud like to mention.
Cost of living.
U fill ur purse Monday morning only to find it empty by Monday evening.!!!
Climate
Its COLD in summer and guess it wud be freezing in winter.
Pulsar + guy + girl + 60kmph
I dont think i have to say much abt this. Its easily understood.
Bangalore Times Paper
It actually contains more "figures" than "facts"
Forum
2 type of ppl come here. One to spend money & other to spend time.
Jeans
Girls wear jean more often than guys.
Autos
Objects on which u are gonna spend LOADS of money every week.
Happening
Well, there wud be something happening in the city everyday. Its just that u dont know that its happening.
Kannada
A language which u need not know to live here.
In short, this is a city meant for enjoyment.
Just ensure that ur purse is FULL. Then u have unlimited opportunities to enjoy.
Else, it is most likely that u are gonna rot in the city.
Verdict : Enjoy Maadi.

Orkutting !!!!
Bad, bad server. No donut for you.
Unfortunately, the orkut.com server has acted out in an unexpected way. Hopefully, it will return to its helpful self if you try again in a few minutes.
It's likely that the server will behave this way on occasion during the coming months. We apologize for the inconvenience and for our server's lack of consideration for others.
This is probably one of the most frequently seen orkut page in case u login after 10 at night.. Every boy, girl who knows how to operate a system and has "very fast" broadband connection at their home login into Orkut to increase their circle of friends..
In a way, Orkut is a revolution in the making.. No one wud have dreamt of a method to get in touch with so many people across the globe.. Yahoo ! chat was quite popular for sometime.. But the entire Orkut database is so well structured.. it hardly takes u 10 mins to find a long lost friend of urs..
Some of the popular scraps..
"Hi there.. Do you remember me ?? I was ur class mate from 5th til 8th.. "
"Hi. I am XXX studying in YYY. I am currently recruited by ZZZ and wil be joining there next year. From ur profile i understand u are working in ZZZ too.. Can u pls tell how the working place is.. Scrap me back.. Regards.."
Ya, this is what orkut is all about.. It gives u the freedom to interact with people.. No restrictions.. No formalities.. It is not always easy to speak to a new person.. But very easy to scrap an unknown person and get acquainted wit them.. On the whole, the Orkut idea is a success in every sense of the word.. Unlike many other website, from my understanding, Orkut cud be easily handled by the administrators too.. There are very few security related issues as every thing is pretty much "open" in Orkut..
There is a popularly known concept..
"You can link two different people at different parts of the globe merely through a chain of 4 to 6 people"..
I hope u get the point.. Thats how simple this complicated world is.. And thats the principle behind Orkut's phenomenal success..
There are of course few funny things happening inside Orkut..
People have decided to throw away their last name.. Instead they use that particular column to flash news..
XXX placed in ZZZ
or
YYY leaving for chennai on 7th
Of course, yours truly has been following such practises right from its inception.. I wonder who invented such "innovative" practises.. But i am sure the person shud be an Indian.. Cuz only in India u get such "Out of the Box" thinking..
Worse.. People have started using their "about me" column to describe the news in detail.. Its really funny how such practises get accepted globally..
Some people get excited at the first look of Orkut.. then subsequently lose the interest.. But continue to use Orkut.. They dont just drop it.. Therefore the interest levels drop down considerably.. but not below a certain level that prevents them from using it..
The whole idea of community is excellent.. Ppl of similar interests get to meet each other..
There are few things which are rarely used.. For instance the Orkut mailbox.. Ppl hardly use such services.. The scrap book is frequently used..
Hats off to the creators of Orkut..
